In its quest to become a reference point for birdwatching in the region, the Aweima program continues to develop partnerships with tourism firms in Colombia and around the world specializing in the subject.
Another key action towards the promotion of the five established routes (Andina, Encanto, El Dorado, Macondo, and a flexible one) available on aweima.co is a training program led by top experts. This is the Diploma in Ornithology Fundamentals for Birdwatching Guidance, derived from the training efforts for birdwatching guides, in which five Environmental Biology students and a Unibagué official participated, as well as four external individuals.
“It consisted of 80 hours of theoretical and practical training, with outings ranging from five to 13 hours in duration to the Potrerillo village in Coello; the El Escobal farm, the San Jorge Botanical Garden, Ukuku Rural Lodge, and the El Palmar reserve in Los Nevados National Park,” highlighted Alejandro Arteaga, director of Aweima.”
Comprehensive, especially exemplary
Fridays and saturdays were intense, fun and fruitful: the ideal opportunity to learn much more than just the basics of birdwatching, to identify taxonomy and types of birds, to know how to observe them and to understand more about the state of colombian avifauna and proper nature guiding.
